Unexpected banner on login

Problem Description

When I log in to my (newly upgraded) sympl VM, it still gives me the warning banner telling me that Buster goes end of live in June 2024. I’ve upgraded to Debian 12.12. It’s also still warning me about packages that didn’t upgrade, despite having upgraded them.

What do I need to do to get this banner to update?

Any Error Messages

    ====================== Important Notice ======================

    Debian Buster reaches End Of Life on 2024-06-30, and will
    no longer recieve any updates, including security fixes.

    Similarly, Sympl 10 will no longer recieve any updates, however
    Sympl is still being developed for supported Debian versions.

    For security reasons you should migrate this server to a new
    Debian server running Sympl as soon as possible.

    In-place OS upgrades are are available, and supported on
    servers from https://www.mythic-beasts.com.

    See https://wiki.sympl.io/view/Upgrading_Sympl for more info.

    ==============================================================

Environment

  • Sympl Version: 12.20240820.0
  • Sympl Testing Version: N/A
  • Debian Version: 12.12
  • Hardware Type: MB VM
  • Hosted With: MB

if you run rm /etc/update-motd.d/99-debian-eol, that will remove the End of Life banner.

For the other warning, you should have 4 sympl-named files in /etc/update-motd.d:

00-sympl-banner
70-sympl-system-info
71-sympl-updates-available
75-sympl-reboot-check

If you have any others starting sympl from old versions they should be safe to remove.
